Not only is Ripon Cathedral just opposite The Old Deanery, there is also Fountains Abbey, a World heritage site within walking distance. Right next to Fountains Abbey is Studley Roger, a deer park, which is also an ideal place to go for for an afternoon stroll.
Not far from Ripon is Newby Hall, one of Britain's finest Adam Houses. It has a sculpture park and 25 acres of beautiful gardens and woodland.
Ripon is home to three museums: The Workhouse Museum, The Prison and Police Museum and Courthouse Museum. Ripon has its very own Hornblower who blows his horn at 9pm at each corner of the obelisk on the marketplace at 9pm each night, to let everyone know "all is well".
On the outskirts of Ripon there is Ripon Racecourse, also known as "Yorkshire's Garden Racecourse", a very pleasant venue for those wishing to have a bit of a gamble.
Ripon is a market town with a range of interesting shops and a traditional market place.
